BCAC's Heart of the Arts and
Lifetime Achievement Awards*

For their long-term contributions to the arts in Broome County, Anne Boyer Cotten and Noni and the late Dick Smith were honored with 2006 Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Third Annual Heart of the Arts Awards Celebration held September 10th at the Forum Theatre in Downtown Binghamton. For their contributions to the arts during the past year, Don DeMauro, Patrick Foti and Larry Kassan were honored with 2006 Heart of the Arts Awards. Congratulations and thank you for all you do for the arts in our community!

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS:

Anne Boyer Cotten, founder/director of the Madrigal Choir of Binghamton; designer; arts educator, singer, dancer, ”Renaissance Woman”.

Dick & Noni Smith,
Cider Mill Playhouse founding members; beloved director, husband & wife acting team. “The Alfred Lunt & Lynn Fontaine of Greater Binghamton Theatre”.

2006 HEART OF THE ARTS AWARDS:

Don DeMauro,
Director of Spool MFG Contemporary Art Space and Binghamton University Professor of Studio Arts. For transforming an abandoned Johnson City factory into a vast and vibrant art space, which, during the past year, has come into its own as a center for creative engagement with contemporary, multimedia art forms.

Patrick Foti,
Founding Artistic Director of Endicott Performing Arts Center. For his instrumental role in establishing the EPAC Kids’ Theatre Workshop, EPAC Repertory Company, EPAC School for the Performing Arts and other successful training programs for hundreds of young performers, and, during the past year, for directing, choreographing, coordinating or overseeing no fewer than 16 EPAC productions.

Larry Kassan,
Technical Director, Founding Director of the Rod Serling Video Festival, and Director of Special Projects for the Binghamton City School District. For taking the Rod Serling Video Festival from a local to a national K-12; for being a driving force for excellence in performing arts education and professional stage tech; and, during the past year, for spearheading innovative performance programs that brought together local artists and arts organizations in a common cause.
