Broome County Arts Council (BCAC)We are an independent, 501 (c) 3 public service organization. The BCAC promotes a thriving arts community, essential to the quality of life in Broome County. We strive to advance the awareness and value of the arts through advocacy, fundraising, grant making, services and programs. We are a primary local arts fundraiser, arts advocate and cultural information resource for the arts community and the general public. The BCAC collaborates on and encourages participation in projects and initiatives that promote the arts as an engine of cultural growth and economic development in Greater Binghamton and Broome County.
Fundraising and Grant MakingBCAC has administered the annual United Cultural Fund (UCF) Campaign since 1987, raising money from local government, foundations, and corporate donors and awarding grants to non-profit arts & cultural organizations and individual artists living and working in Broome County. Arts Information ClearinghouseBCAC maintains a popular website www.bcartscouncil.com which features continually updated Events Calendar, and News & Information. We also publish and e-mail to more than 1,000 subscribers the BCAC Weekly Newsletter, which re-prints the Events Calendar and lists artist, grant and training opportunities. To subscribe to the BCAC Weekly Newsletter, e-mail information@bcartscouncil.com BCAC provides reference and referral services to the arts community and to the general public. BCAC sponsors free, seminars for artists and arts organizations regarding grants, re-grants and fellowships available from, for example, New York Foundation of the Arts, Chenango County Council on the Arts, and other local, regional and statewide arts groups and organizations. Annual Awards CelebrationBCAC created the annual Heart of the Arts Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2004, inviting the community to select and celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts in Broome County. The 2008 Celebration, which is free and open to the public, took place on Friday, October 3rd at the Forum Theatre Recital Hall, as part of the popular First Friday Art Walk in downtown Binghamton. MembershipBCAC Arts Members and Patron of the Arts enjoy a variety of benefits, including website listing and active links. Members may post items on the BCAC Events Calendar, reserve free meeting space at BCAC and waive UCF application fees. Patrons receive special discounts, promotions and recognition, based on patronage levels. Quarterly BCAC membership meetings are held in March, June, September and December.
